I find it amusing that today; to celebrate the Chinese New Year ~ the year of the water dragon ~ we have rain! The dragon has spoken.
I have a friend whose nephew was born today, which makes the little guy an ‘emperor dragon’. I was just reading on a radio station blog called ‘here&now’ that across Asia, celebrations, mark the start of the year of the dragon – the only mystical creature of the zodiac’s twelve animals – and it’s believed to be especially lucky. That’s why many couples across Asia are making an extra effort to give birth to “dragon babies.”
According to tradition, the dragon embodies passion, independence, and ambition. The Dragon is a creature of myth and legend. A symbol of good fortune and sign of intense power, the Oriental Dragon is regarded as a divine beast – the reverse of the malicious monster that Westerners felt necessary to find and slay. In Eastern philosophy, the Dragon is said to be a deliverer of good fortune and a master of authority. Conformation is a Dragon’s curse. Rules and regulations are made for other people. Restrictions blow out the creative spark that is ready to flame into life. Dragons must be free and uninhibited. The Dragon is a beautiful creature, colorful and flamboyant. An extroverted bundle of energy, gifted and utterly irrepressible, everything Dragons do is on a grand scale – big ideas, ornate gestures, extreme ambitions. However, this behavior is natural and isn’t meant for show. Because they are confident, a dragon is fearless in the face of challenge.
So here is ambition; good fortune; creativity on grand scales and legendary achievements!
